Position: Youth Program Assistant
Status: Full-time
Reports to: Youth Program Manager
Salary and Benefits: $30,000-$40,000 Annual Per-Year. Includes generous health insurance, vision, dental, life insurance, short-term disability, and paid time off.
Overview: The Denver Indian Family Resource Center (DIFRC) is seeking a qualified individual as a Youth Program Assistant.

  • The Youth Program Assistant works with the Youth Program Manager in the development and implementation of year-round youth programming to meet grant goals and objectives with cultural responsiveness and quality.
  • The Youth Program Assistant collaborates with fellow DIFRC staff to ensure that youth-focused or youth-led events are delivered with efficiency and quality.
  • In consultation with the Youth Program Manager and works closely with DIFRC leadership to cultivate partnerships and collaborations to advance Native youth programming.

Primary Duties:

  • Assists with DIFRC’s Native Youth program recruitment activities.
  • Assists in planning, implementing and coordination of community events and Native youth activities that contribute to the spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of the youth and their families.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of DIFRC’s Native youth program design, and schedule, participant expectations, policies and procedures, and safety planning or youth programs that provides opportunity for education, professional, and personal development of Native youth participants in a safe, enjoyable environment.
  • Assists to create and implement evaluation for program applicants that will inform participant selection as well as assist in evaluating program success and areas for development.
  • Recommend structure allowing program participants to be actively involved in event/activity planning, marketing, and execution, to develop participant leadership skills and community engagement.
  • Under the direction of the Native Youth Program Manager, works within the budget parameters of DIFRC’s Native Youth programming.
  • Communicate expectations to all youth participants, working with the Youth Program Manager to ensure necessary paperwork/documentation is on file for each participant
  • Facilitate and co-lead classes/workshops/training to youth participants
  • Maintain good relationships with community partners involving youth programming
  • Engage in strategic planning and evaluation, assisting in making program updates as needed to help ensure programming is aligned with DIFRC’s mission and meeting program goals
  • As requested, represents the Denver Indian Family Resource Center at relevant meetings and serves on relevant committees in the community
  • Works closely with the Youth Program Manager to ensure data is collected as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Some college education preferred and two to three years’ experience in previous workplace in similar work
  • Prior experience overseeing and building relationships with youth and families
  • Organized, able to manage a variety of young people, activities/events, and curriculum
  • Knowledge of Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA)
  • Must have a valid driver license
  • Must be able to pass applicable background checks
  • Commitment to youth leadership development, mentoring and community engagement
  • Knowledge of Native American cultures is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of de-escalating conflict peacefully
  • Reliable, able to maintain regular, punctual attendance and honor all commitments to program partcipants
